Mother’s Day

Today, we’d all like to thank our moms as a troop! Moms have the difficult job of constantly caring and providing for their children, and mothers of Scouts often have to put in extra effort. We bring home dishes and dirty clothes from campouts, asking how we’re supposed to clean them. We rely on them to help us pack for trips like summer camp and high adventure, because we’ll always forget something we need for that week. And they provide us with the love and support we need to reach our goals, including Eagle Scout. So this Mother’s Day, please remember to appreciate the family member that makes everything you do possible (and give her a hug)!

May Backpacking Campout—May 15-17!

The Troop is going backpacking!  This is not something the troop does every year so you won’t want to miss it.  We will complete an approximate 10 mile hike over the course of the weekend.  The trip will include camping on Friday night in a traditional primitive campsite, a trailside lunch on Saturday, and overnighting in a different campsite on Saturday night.

The Troop will meet at 4:30pm at the church Friday afternoon to gather gear and pack up. Gathering gear will be a little different this time!  Instead of taking the trailer, patrol boxes and all the usual gear; pack-up will consist of scouts pulling together the limited troop gear they will need (tents, backpacking stoves and limited cooking gear), then dividing that amongst everyone and packing it into/onto their backpack.

Since we are traveling as a Troop, Class A uniforms are required for travel Friday night and Sunday morning…we’ll leave our Class A shirts in the cars, so that’s 1 less item to carry on the trail.  Bring a brown bag dinner for the ride to Columbus.

Careful consideration will need to be made when packing for this trip.  We will discuss this with the scouts during a troop meeting or two; however, it is important to mention here as well.  This is not a trip where throwing in an extra t-shirt, extra gear or extra pocket knife, etc is recommended.  Remember every item packed will be carried on your back, which amounts to more work.  The goal is to travel light, but bring what you will need.  Good hiking/walking boots should be worn (however, do not wear new shoes without breaking them in first!).

The consent form is due Tuesday, May 12.

March 2026 Campout — Camp Michaels

We will be camping March 13-15, sleeping in heated yurts. We will meet at 4:30 at MSPC on Friday afternoon to gather gear and pack up the trailer.  Since we are traveling as the troop, Class A uniforms are required for travel Friday night and Sunday morning. Bring a brown bag dinner for the ride to the campsite. This campout will be an important one for our new Crossover Scouts to attend.  We’ll be covering the bulk of the Scout rank, as well as earning their Totin’ Chip & Firem’n Chit, as time permits.  ‘Patrol Wars’ will likely be the main activity; there are also hiking trails on-site Lastly, we will arrive back to MSPC ~9:30am Sunday. We will need to unload the trailer and assign gear for cleaning which takes ~30 minutes.

Troop 209- Hoodies!

We get a Troop t-shirt every year, but I’m not sure we’ve ever got a Troop sweatshirt.  Since we live in Ohio…it seems to make sense that we should get a Troop sweatshirt!  The cost is $40.00 (see attached Hoodie Order Form).  I want to get the order in soon, so the deadline is Tuesday, December 6…please let me know by then.

Re-up charter and National dues

It’s time for Troop 209 to re-up our Charter and collect National dues. Attached is a form similar to our camp out forms that we will be using this year to collect/update your info and determine how you would like to pay.
Please return this form and payment to the camping in-bin by our Oct 25 Troop meeting. If you can’t make a Troop meeting before the deadline, the form and payment can be mailed to: Boy Scout Troop 209 | P.O. Box 43525, Madeira, Ohio 45243.
