On Saturdays 10/17 & 10/24 – Volunteers are needed at Spook-O-Ree which is held at Cub World from 4:00pm -10:00pm. Boys will receive a Spook-O-Ree Staff T-shirt & dinner, should come dressed up in a Halloween costume and work one of the booths. This is always a good time for our Scouts to volunteer. You can work one or both Saturdays. Council counts on Boy Scout volunteers to keep running this Cub Scout focused event. Sign-up sheet will be at the 9/29 Troop Meeting. The second Spook-O-Ree conflict with our Troop Campout. Our campout should be our priority, no boys should be leaving the campout to work at Spook-0-Ree.

Helping Pack 20
Friday 10/2 – Sunday 10/4 – Volunteers are needed to help out at Cub Scout Pack 20 campout at Cub World. We have been providing 10-12 Boy Scouts every year for as long as I know. This is a fun opportunity to help the Cubs and it gives them an opportunity to see what Boy Scouts can do. You will either be assigned an activity or a Den to assist with. This is NOT difficult but you will need to be somewhat out going, mature and flexible. Friday evening is optional. Saturday is 8:00am – 9:00pm, you can spend the night Saturday night if you wish. There will several adult volunteers from the Troop at the campout but they will be focusing on the Cubs. Our boys will be managing themselves. Sign-up sheet will be at the Troop meeting on 9/29 Troop Meeting.
Oct PLC Meeting date moved
The October PLC meeting is being moved from 10/6 to this Tuesday 9/29. It starts at the 5:45pm as usual. The change is due to a conflict with our Scoutmaster’s work travel schedule.

2 Service Opportunities
We have 2 service opportunities that needs Scouts and Scout Parents to help with.
- Madeira Directory
- OA Rootbeer Floats
Madeira Directory
As we gear up to create the next Madeira Directory, we need the boys and a few parents to step up to help with capturing the most current information from Madeira residence. Getting this data is not as simple as going down to City Hall and asking for it as they don’t have all the information that is in the Directory. One of the methods we have used successfully in the past is to have boys posted at Krogers to obtain updated information.
This is not a difficult task but it is a needed task. Having correct information in the Directory makes it more useful and thus we will likely sell more of them. This is currently our only fund raiser that funds the Troop for 2 years at a time. The money raised goes to things like buying/fixing tents, trailer maintenance costs, pots/pans, general troop/patrol camping equipment, Merit Badges, etc., etc. If you attended the July 28th meeting run by Tom Cross, you understand that without this fund raiser we would not be able to have the quality Troop that your sons have enjoyed over the years.
We need 4 boys and a few parents to help out on Sunday September 13th and Sunday September 20th helping to verify information for the Madeira Directory at Kroger. The below link is how we will be capturing volunteers.
Volunteer Spot: http://vols.pt/o87fcP
There are 2 sessions on each day, from 1-3pm and 3-5pm, and each one needs 2 Scouts.
OA Rootbeer Floats
Below is important information about another volunteer opportunity. You do NOT need to be in the Order of the Arrow to help. This is not so much a sale but rather you will be giving out floats and hoping for tips that will go to camp improvements and camperships. This will count toward Scout and School requirements for service hours.
- What: OA Root Beer Float “Sale”
- Where: Madeira Kroger
- When: Saturday Sept 12th 10:30 – 5:30
- Why: The proceeds of the root beer float sale help fund the Dan Beard Council Campership Fund and Camp Improvements.
- Who: You!
Troop 209 will be staffing the Madeira Kroger to help the Order of the Arrow raise funds to make improvements at camp and to help disadvantaged youth participate in summer camp. A&W is providing the root beer and red cream soda. Kroger is providing the ice, cups and ice cream, we just need to make the floats! Easy way to volunteer and help our community enjoy our fantastic camp.
I need 2 adults and 3 – 5 kids per shift. The first shift from 10:30-12:00 will have about 30 minutes of set up. The last shift will stop selling at 5:00 and can leave after everything is cleaned up. Shifts – 10:30-12:00, 12:00-2:00, 2:00-4:00, 4:00-5:30.
