Cost

$490.

We want all boys to attend summer camp, if the cost of summer camp is deterring your son from attending, please contact our Scout Master, Mr. Cissell, to privately to discuss options.

You may pay the entire amount in the first payment or you may make 3 installment payments. Please use the voucher below when sending in your payment. Payments are sometimes non-refundable if your son decides that he doesn’t want to or can’t go to summer camp after signing up. Depending upon when we are notified, we may be able to refund all or a portion of the amount that has already been paid. If we know before the final payment is made to camp, we can adjust some things and you would likely get a full refund. After the final payment is made to the camp, any refund is subject to the camp’s refund policy.

Merit Badges

Camp Friedlander offers 50+ merit badges. Some of the badges are difficult to earn anywhere but at summer camp. Depending on your Scout’s schedule, he can earn as many as six or seven merit badges during the week. While many merit badges can be done completely at camp, some may have requirements that must be completed prior to arrival (see pre-work section for details).

We will work with the Scouts during a regular Troop meeting to collect their merit badge requests. Our coordinator then uses the camp’s registration system to get each Scout as many of their requests as possible. We do our best to get your Scout what they want, but can’t guarantee everyone will get all of their first choices.

Trailblazer

First year Scouts will attend the Trailblazer program in lieu of a full Merit Badge schedule (they still get some Merit Badges). Trailblazer is designed to help new Scouts complete many of the requirements needed for rank advancement. It is a mandatory course for first year Scouts that haven’t reached First Class.

Pre-work

This document lists the merit badges that are offered by camp. Each merit badge details the requirements that need to complete prior to camp and any additional costs or gear needs.

Swim Test

Every Scout attending Summer Camp must take a swim test (non-swimmers can be noted without actually taking the test). The test can be taken at camp, but there are very long lines (hours). To avoid the long lines our Troop takes the test before leaving for camp. In June, one of our regular Troop meetings will be held at the Madeira Swim and Tennis Club so we can administer the test as a group. Your family doesn’t need to be a member to be tested.

Several Merit Badges have testing at the swimmer level as a pre-requisite. See the pre-work section for details.

Additional Forms

Additional forms that may be needed based on your Scout’s individual need. All forms should be turned into the Troop.

Special diet request form – This form is for special dietary needs. Special dietary needs includes allergies (nuts, lactose, gluten-free, etc.) and religious (kosher, etc) diets. It DOES NOT include your Scout being a picky eater. This form is due to the troop 30 days before the start of camp.

COPE & Climbing Consent form – This form is required if your Scout is doing COPE, their climbing merit badge, or would like the option of climbing the tower during open climb. Everyone (including leaders) is encouraged to submit this form.

Cowboy Action Form – This form is required for 14+ Scouts to participate in Cowboy Action which allows Scouts to shoot a pistol, a rifle, and a shotgun.

Parents Night

Parents are invited to join us Friday night for dinner and a tour of camp led by your Scout. Please plan on coming out to hear about all the cool stuff your Scout has been doing. A RSVP will be sent out in June to get a head count.

Packing List

This Packing list covers the basic gear that each Scout should have. Some Merit Badges have additional gear requirements (see prework section for details) and your Scout is responsible for knowing what they need and making sure it is brought to camp. Some gear items may be in our Troop inventory and can be checked out for use at camp. Have your Scout talk to the Troop Quartermaster.

Summer Camp Packing Checklist

Note on Packing: Scouts should pack their own bag. This helps them build a valuable skill and know where their stuff is when they get to camp. Parents can help their Scout by having their Scout layout everything they are going to bring, reviewing the checklist with them to ensure they have everything needed, and providing tips on how to pack their bag. You can also question the appropriateness of any extra items they are planning on bringing.

Packages/Letters/Postcards

Here is the address to use for sending packages/letters/postcards to your Scout while at camp. Reminder, postcards will be read aloud to the Troop, so make them funny. If sending snacks, please only send enough snacks that can be eaten in one day.
