Hello OA members! Here is the event calendar for the year of 2016.
Rock Climbing 12/5
Attached are the TWO required forms for our rock climbing on December 5th at Climb Time (Kenwood Road).
This is a cash only event, please bring exact change as this helps get the boys on the wall quicker.
- We will leave from and return to the church
- Any adults who wish to run the belay lines, can take a quick course for $5. If you are already trained, it is no charge.
- Forms are due Tuesday December 1st to ensure we have enough adults to drive and belay
Light up Madeira
Help needed from both boys and adults. Sign-up sheet will be available on Tuesday Dec. 1 OR you can e-mail Mr. Fitzgerald BEFORE then to get the slot you really want. All shifts are currently available. Looking for about 5 boys/2 adults per shift. If your son is going to the rock climbing event, they should only sign up for one of the last two shifts.
- 9:00 – noon (meet at church to help load up supplies, no additional adults needed for this shift)
- Noon – 2:00 (meet at BBQ Depot)
- 2:00-4:00 (meet at BBQ Depot)
- 4:00 – 6:30 (help return supplies to the church)

Campout: Being prepared for the cold
The weather looks like it is going to make for an interesting Wilderness Survival campout this weekend. The temperature at Camp Michaels will be 5-7 degrees lower than the Cincinnati area due to the location. It is important that boys Be Prepared. Below are some guidelines that Mr. Kimbrough put together a year or two ago to help those that have never camped in cold weather.
Keys:
- Layer your clothes
- Changing into dry clothes before going to bed
- Hats/gloves/extra shoes
- Sleeping bags, blanket, etc.
Camping: Wilderness Survival
Last campout of 2015 and it is always one of the boys favorites. We will be going to Camp Michaels which is a Dan Beard Council property in Northern KY. The theme is Wilderness Survival. Boys will hear a lot of detail over the next two troop meetings about what they are permitted to bring, how to pack, how to build a shelter and cooking constraints.
The Camp Michaels – Nov 2015 – Consent Form needs to be returned NO LATER than Tuesday 11/17.
Merit Badge Challenge: Pre-work
Scouts should be working on their Merit Badge pre-work for Merit Badge Challenge. This is especially true those that have a 90 day requirement. Follow this link MBC Pre-work Details to get specific details about what needs to be done for each Merit Badge.
Voting: Change of room
Today is election day and the fellowship hall is being used as a polling station. Head to our usual back up room for PLC and our Troop meeting.
Troop elections tomorrow night
Troop elections are tomorrow night. Make sure you attend and have your voted counted.
Troop registered for Merit Badge Challenge
The Troop has been registered for Merit Badge Challenge (thank you Mr. Zack). An e-mail was sent out to those with Scouts signed up for Merit Badge Challenge 2016. If you didn’t receive an email and were expecting to, please contact Mr Zack to get registered.
For those that received an email, please book all three Saturdays mornings (January 30, February 6 and February 20, 2016, and Snow Date February 27) into your family calendar to ensure that your Scout will be available. Most, if not all of the Merit Badges have pre-work that should be done PRIOR to the 1/30 date. The below merit badges have more significant requirements that will need to be addressed/started soon. Those with a 90 day requirement means that this piece will need to be started within the next few weeks. The pre-work information is attached. Boys can either get a merit badge booklet out of our closet (if available) OR look them up on-line (meritbadge.org) to figure out what they need to work on ahead of time. Boys will be reminded of all this information in upcoming Troop meetings.

- Personal Management – 90 days
- Citizenship – council meetings and other things that will need to be planned out in advance
