Campout – Govenor Bebb MetroPark (3/17-3/19)

What:    Cabin camping with newly crossed-over AOL scouts
When:   March 17-19Where:  Governor Bebb MetroPark  Gov Bebb WebsiteMap: Governor Bebb Murstein Group Cabin Troop 209 is excited to welcome newly crossed-over scouts with a cabin campout.  Scouts will gather, in full Class A uniforms, at the church at 4:30 pm on Friday, March 17th.  The scout trailer will be loaded and we will travel as a group to the cabin.  While this is a cabin, it is only heated by the wood-burning fireplace.  We do plan to have the fire going but understand it can only do so much.  So please keep a careful eye on the weather reports and pack accordingly.  Below are a few comments from the park district about the cabin.

Consent form is due Tuesday, March 14th
General info about the cabin:Located in Morgan Township at 1979 Bebb Park Lane, Okeana, Ohio, the Murstein Group Cabin is a rustic cabin that accommodates approximately 25 people. Check-in is any time after 3:00PM and check-out is by Noon on the day of departure. The bunks are wood-slat and have no mattresses, so campers may want to bring a tent pad, blanket, etc. to sleep on. There is a large main room with picnic tables, benches along the walls that fold down into additional beds, and a large wood burning stove. The kitchen is equipped with an electric stove and refrigerator, but no running water or cooking utensils. There is a loft area upstairs that holds about 17 bunks. There is electric in the cabin, but no heat. There are no restrooms inside, but a composting restroom facility is located within walking distance. An outdoor charcoal grill and fire ring with benches are accessible behind the cabin. Potable water is available at the water spigot located near the park maintenance office.
I’m attaching the campground map showing the location of the cabin and a trail map.  The Scouts may want to plan a hike!!  …there are several fairly short/easy hikes on the property.

2023 Mulch Sale

The kickoff for this year’s sale is Feb 14, at our regular meeting.  Scouts will get their mulch route, and order forms, and we’ll prep the letters, and go over the sales process.  This is an important meeting for all scouts (and AOL Crossovers) to attend!   The mulch delivery date is April 22.

Scout Sunday (Sunday, Feb 12)

Scout Sunday is coming up on February 12th and we need everyone’s attendance to make it a success!  This is our time to thank Madeira-Silverwood Presbyterian Church for all the support they provide us during the year.  Please plan to attend from 8:45 am-12:00 Noon to support the activities for the morning.  All scouts are required to wear their Class A uniforms.

9 am service – We’ll need 2 scouts to read during the worship service.   Everyone else will either attend the service for support or help set up for breakfast.

10 am pancake breakfast – We need all scouts to help prepare, serve, and clean up.11 am service – We’ll need 2 scouts to read during the worship service.  Others will attend the service for support or clean up from breakfast.

Everyone that participates during Scout Sunday will get a special Scout Sunday patch, designed by our scout Shane S.

2023 Summer Camp

Summer Camp registrations are due Feb 7!  Please send in your registration info next week so we can get scouts registered in preparation for class registration at the end of the month.  The form is attached.   We’ll be picking merit badges at the Feb 28 meeting.

Recall, Summer Camp is July 9-15 at Camp Friedlander.  Our goal is to have everyone attend Summer Camp.

Troop 209- Hoodies!

We get a Troop t-shirt every year, but I’m not sure we’ve ever got a Troop sweatshirt.  Since we live in Ohio…it seems to make sense that we should get a Troop sweatshirt!  The cost is $40.00 (see attached Hoodie Order Form).  I want to get the order in soon, so the deadline is Tuesday, December 6…please let me know by then.

Light-Up Madeira (Saturday 12/3)

Each year, Troop 209 supports this annual Madeira tradition by tending the fire, handing-out juice boxes/cookies, managing the carriage rides line, and loading/unloading the passengers from the carriages.  The event happens in the plaza in front of the train depot.  We need both scouts and adults to make this happen!

Please email the scoutmaster for the sign-up sheet!

December Campout: Lock-In

What: December “lock-in”

Where: Camp Friedlander Youth Staff Cabins and Scene 75

When: December 9-10

Our “lock-in” is going to be bigger and better this year.  We have moved it from the church out to Camp Friedlander.  We will stay in the camp staff cabins where our favorite counselor “tent” during summer camp.  Each cabin has heat but we still need to pack carefully.  The heat will not be like what we are accustomed to at home.  I think each cabin might be in the upper 50s.  So be sure to pack a sleeping bag with appropriate cold-weather clothing!

Our schedule will be setting up camp in the cabins and then driving out to Scene 75 in Milford for a couple of hours of indoor gaming.  Each scout will have $25 of Scene 75 credit to spend as they please.  Afterward, we will return to Camp Friedlander for a pizza dinner.  Saturday morning we will eat breakfast and begin work on our service project.  This year will be constructing 600 sandwiches for the non-profit organization—Our Daily Bread.  400 sandwiches will be meat/cheese, while 200 will be peanut butter and jelly.  The Troop will be providing the sandwich supplies…the scouts will become the “chefs”.  The consent and waiver form is due Tuesday, December 6, 2022.

The consent form can be found in the link below.
